Individual Counseling
We all have seasons in our lives where we can feel stuck, overwhelmed, isolated, out of answers. Individual counseling is one of the greatest opportunities you can give yourself to create change, find new patterns of meaning and deepen your connection to self and others. Therapy looks different for everyone. For many it is to get through a challenging time, for others it is about creating deeper awareness and instilling change, and for some it is a lifelong journey. Whatever your needs, I am here to help support you in your journey.
Couples Counseling
At any stage of a relationship, challenges can occur. Old patterns or new stressors can lead to a communication breakdown leaving each individual feeling alone inside the partnership. My goal with couples is to help identify the relational stance of the dynamic and help establish healthy communication skills to get couples in a “team” mind set. Utilizing an attachment based - emotionally focused approach, I help couples understand each other's triggers and give them real tools on how to help themselves and each other through their stuck spaces.
Family Counseling
All families face challenges. I see families as an integrated, interconnected unit where each member influences one another individually and collectively as a system. I aim to create a safe space for each member to have their own voice, while fostering listening, understanding, healthy boundaries, problem-solving skills and effective communication.
EMDR Sessions
When we experience trauma, (this can be a one time incident like a car accident or a series of experiences like being neglected as a child), our brain holds on to the memory as a way of protecting us so we know to look out for this danger in the future. But this memory can haunt us by showing up like anxiety, nightmares, depression, stuckness, etc. so what was an adaptive thought, becomes maladaptive. EMDR is a process that can rapidly transform these “stuck beliefs” by creating a reprocessing of the event to transform it into a different, more positive belief. The EMDR protocol taps into the subconscious by utilizing eye-movements to get our brain’s prefrontal cortex left and right lobes to start communicating in a new way, which leads to reprocessing the event so the client can have a different, more adaptive belief. After the treatment, the memory which was once triggering, is no longer so. “Not only does healing occur much more rapidly than in traditional therapy, but as a result of EMDR’s clearing of emotional and physical blockages, many people also experience a sense of joy, openness, and deep connection with others.
Parenting Sessions
Parenthood can be full of difficult seasons. There is no job more important than raising a human and sometimes that calls for outside collaboration. I utilize a solution-focused approach when working with parents so they leave a single session feeling like they have new strategies to employ to seek attunement with their children. With all of the world’s stressors our kids are facing (pandemics, climate change, the political climate, challenge of getting into college, any mistakes they make getting posted on social media), anxiety in families is at a new high, making parenting harder than ever. I aim to collaborate with your parenting style to see what is working, what isn’t, and what can be modified to increase parent confidence and deepen the relationship to your kiddos.
